LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Boise State sophomore Filipp Pogostkin saw his run in singles competition at the ITA Mountain Region Men's Tennis Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. come to an end, Saturday (Oct. 23), as he fell in the round of 16 to end his week at the tournament.
Pogostkin entered Saturday as the only Bronco left vying for a singles or doubles title at the five day event. His shot at bringing home the singles crown would fall short after a hard fought match against No. 3 seed Yannick Weihs (Denver). Pogostkin, the No. 10 seed, pushed Weihs early but fell just short of winning the first set in a tie breaker. He would never recover, as Weihs swept Pogostkin in the second set to secure the 7-6, 6-0 victory.
Boise State wrapped up its day with four consolation matches as Scott Sears, Erik Sheldon, Michael Gilliland and Freddy Walsh were all still alive in singles back draw competition. Sears, Sheldon and Walsh would all score wins in round four of consolation play to give the Broncos a 3-2 singles record on the day. Attached below are all of Boise State's results from day No. 4 of the regional tournament.
