Presnell gets 100th victory at Boise State.
BOISE, Idaho (11/16/2010) - It was a shootout in Taco Bell Arena Tuesday night as Boise State out ran Southern Utah in a high scoring 91-80 victory in Boise to give head coach Gordy Presnell his 100th career win with the Broncos. Five Boise State players reached double-figure scoring led by Kati Isham, Julia Marshall and Diana Lee who turned in career-performances for scoring with 21, 19 and 15 points, respectively.
The Broncos scored the first four points and never trailed, eventually taking a game-high 20-point lead with 16 and half minutes to go in the second half.
The first half saw Boise State dominate Southern Utah running out to a double-digit lead nine minutes into the period where it remained for most of the final 11 minutes. The Broncos stretched their advantage to as high as 19 points, 44-25, with three minutes left before halftime. Boise State finally settled on a 14-point, 47-33, lead at the break.
Isham and Marshall led Boise State in the first 20-minutes scoring 12 and 16 points respectively. Marshall went four-for-four from the 3-point arc during the half, the team shot 50 percent 7-of-14 from long range in the period.
Boise State opened the final half taking a game-high 20-point lead on a Diana Lee jumper with 16:27 to play in the game making the score 61-41. That is when the Thunderbirds started to slowly chip away at their deficit.
Southern Utah pushed the ball down low in the final 20 minutes out scoring Boise State 34 to 16 in the paint as the Thunderbirds rallied. Up 68-54 with 11:25 to go Boise State went cold from the floor and the free-throw line for the next six minutes. Meanwhile, the T-birds used a 14 to three run to pull within three points late in the game at 71-68 with 5:21 to go.
The Broncos regrouped and responded down the stretch with a 12-4 run to regain an 11-point, 83-72, lead with 1:50 left. They eventually extended the lead to 14-points at 90-76 with 21 seconds remaining before settling for the 11 point win.
Kati Isham led Boise State with 21 points on seven of 10 shooting from the floor, including going three of four from the arc. She added three rebounds, two assists and one steal in 22 minutes before fouling out with just under five minutes to play.
Julia Marshall was on fire in the first half before finishing with a career-high 19 points to go with three boards in 27 minutes. Freshman Diana Lee was the third of five Broncos in double-figure scoring adding a season-high 15 points and four assists. She was followed by Lauren Lenhardt with 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal. Janie Bos recorded Boise State’s first double-double of the year with 10 points and team-season-high 13 rebounds.
Southern Utah was led by four players in double-figure scoring. Caitlyn Sears had a team-high 22 points to go with five rebounds, four assists, one block and two steals. Desiree Jackson followed with 20 points, two boards, one assist and one steal. Challis Pascucci added 13 points and a team-high 13 rebounds, followed by Tayler Anderson with 10 points.
Boise State improves to 2-1 on the year with the victory, while Southern Utah falls to 0-2 on the year. Next up for the Broncos is the final contest of a four-game homestand this Saturday when they host Eastern Washington University (1-1) at 7:00 p.m. in Taco Bell Arena.
