Football Team to Open 2011 Season at ?Ole Miss?

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State University finalized its 2011 non-conference football schedule when it was announced the Broncos would open the season on Sept. 3 (Saturday) at the University of Mississippi.

No game time has been set, but the game is expected to be televised nationally.  Information regarding the broadcast will be announced at a later date.

The game will be played at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium (60,580) in Oxford, Mississippi.  There is no return trip to Boise and Ole Miss is paying Boise State a game guarantee of $900,000.

"This will be a great game to start the 2011 season," Boise State Director of Athletics Gene Bleymaier stated.  "Playing a team coached by Houston Nutt will add to the fun and excitement."

Nutt was the Broncos' head coach in 1997 before taking the head coaching position at the University of Arkansas in 1998.  This will mark the third time Nutt has face his old Boise State team.  While Nutt was the head coach at Arkansas, the Broncos traveled to Little Rock (2000) and Fayetteville (2002) to face the Razorbacks.  Nutt is beginning his third year at Ole Miss.

"Diane and I had a wonderful experience there, and we're glad they're coming to Oxford," Coach Nutt said. "Boise State is one of the top programs now, and we have an awesome respect for them. It really takes our schedule to another level."

This will mark the first time Boise State and Ole Miss have met on the football field.

"We're excited for the match-up against Ole Miss," Boise State Head Coach Chris Petersen said. "It will be great for Bronco Nation and the Boise State program to open the 2011 season against an opponent of that caliber."

The Broncos will play five non-conference games in 2011 including three home games.  The games at Bronco Stadium include Wyoming on Sept. 10 (Saturday), Tulsa on Sept. 24 (Saturday) and Utah on Oct. 1 (Saturday).  The other non-conference road game in 2011 is at Toledo on Sept. 17 (Saturday).

Boise State's Western Athletic Conference schedule for 2011 will not be released until March of 2011.
