LARAMIE, Wyo. (9/24/2010) - The University of Wyoming scored a goal in the 28th minute then held off Boise State to hand the Broncos a 1-0 defeat in women’s soccer Friday afternoon in Laramie. Despite out shooting the Cowgirls 10-to-four in shots on goal the Broncos could not slip one past the Wyoming defense as the Broncos fall to 3-6-1 on the year. Cheyenne Jones and Katy Oehring led Boise State with three and two shots on goal, respectively.
Wyoming took the lead in the 28th minute when Nahiomy Ortiz launched a shot from 35-yards that sailed over the defense into the top-left corner of goal for the game winner.
Boise State placed five shots on goal in each period but was unable to beat the Cowgirl keeper, Courtney Blume. Senior Cheyenne Jones led with a team-high three shots on goal followed by freshman Katy Oehring with two. Five other Broncos also managed to shoot on target in Shannon Saxton, Kallie Neimann, Erica Parks, Mckenzie Hickel and Ashley Hruby.
The Broncos have lost two straight games with an encounter at the University of Northern Colorado on the slate for Sunday afternoon. Sunday’s match will mark the final nonconference game on the Bronco schedule for Boise State who opens Western Athletic Conference play at Hawaii next week.
