Lucas Scores Two as Broncos Win

Seattle - Senior forward Kati Lucas scored two goals for the Boise State women's soccer team (5-7-1) in the Broncos' 2-0 road win over the Seattle Redhawks (8-5-0), Sunday.

Lucas put away the first goal off an assist from Katy Oehring in the 52nd minute. Oehring sent a long ball to the front of the net, where Lucas flicked the shot over the Seattle goalkeeper. Mikhaila Bowden set the Richland, Wash., native up for her second goal in the 86th minute, when she played a long ball up to Lucas, who fired a shot past the keeper from 15 yards out.

The goals were Lucas' fourth and fifth of the season, a team high. The game also marked the first multi-goal game of her Bronco career.

"Kati did a great job of being composed," said head coach Steve Lucas. "She had some time and did what a striker is supposed to do; she scored goals and put away the chances she had."

Redshirt freshman Maddy McDevitt earned the shutout win during her Bronco debut, playing all 90 minutes and recording nine saves which is tied for the most saves by a by a Bronco goalkeeper in a game this season.

Though the Broncos had fewer scoring opportunities, they made the most of their chances. Boise State finished with a 9-4 deficit in the shots on goal column and had 10 fewer corner kicks than the Redhawks

The soccer team will return to the Boas Soccer and Tennis Complex for its conference home-opener against Air Force, Saturday at noon.

"It was a total team effort today," Steve Lucas said. "We gave a lot of players some minutes and we are excited because it's a win against a good program. We're going to carry that momentum over to next week and I think that helps a lot."
