SALT LAKE CITY-Sonia Klamczynska won a match in singles and doubles, Saturday, to highlight Boise State women's tennis' showing on the second day of play at the Utah Invitational. Klamczynska will play for the Flight A Singles consolation title Sunday, when the tournament resumes.
Klamczynska, a senior, started her day teaming up with freshman Kaitlyn Brown in the first round of the doubles consolation draw. They took down regional rival Marian Tangarife and Laura Severino from Idaho State, 8-4. In the second round, Brown and Klamczynska lost to BYU's doubles team of Aubrey Paul and Desiree Tran, 8-1.
Klamczynska's day was not done, though. She took on another Cougar in singles action. The Bronco took care of Megan Price from BYU in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-3, to advance to the finals of the consolation draw.
The doubles tandem of Manuela and Marlena Pietzuch entered the day as the Broncos' lone entrant remaining in main draw action. The sisters met Whitney Wolf and Keri Frankenberger from LSU in the quarterfinals. The Tigers were too much for the Broncos, winning 8-5.
Sandy Vo and Morgan Basil also played in a consolation match in doubles play. Vo and Basil lost to Paul and Tran in the first round, 8-2.
Three Broncos took the court in added matches. Manuela Pietzuch defeated Frankenberger in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (5). Marlena Pietzuch fell in a back-and-forth match with Utah's Natasha Smith, 6-4, 3-6, 10-4. Basil lost in straight sets to Yvette Vlaar from LSU, 6-4, 6-4.
