Broncos Edged by Hawkeyes on the Road

IOWA CITY, Iowa-Boise State men's basketball lost at Iowa 81-72 Thursday, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes (8-5) converted 13-of-16 free throw attempts in the game's final 6:42 to keep the Broncos (9-4) at bay and stretch their lead in a game that featured 14 lead changes.

Kenny Buckner led the Broncos with a career-high 18 points, including 10 in the first half. Buckner scored in double figures for the fifth time this season. He has reached double digits in three of the Broncos' four road games.

Derrick Marks scored 17 points for the Broncos, including 12 in the last 4:39 as Boise State positioned itself to make a run, but the Hawkeyes put the game away at the charity stripe.

Earlier in the half a 9-2 run from Boise State culminated with a 3-pointer from Thomas Bropleh to tie the game at 57 with 7:12 to play. It was the fourth and final time the score was tied in the second half as Iowa responded with eight-straight points to take control.

Iowa was paced by four players scoring in double figures, including 18 points each from Devyn Marble and Aaron White.

Boise State closed the first half on an 11-4 run to tie the score at 33 going into the break. The Broncos got scoring from five different players during the spurt.

Boise State is back in action Dec. 31, against in-state rival Idaho at the Idaho Center. Tip-off is scheduled for Noon (MT).

The Broncos played without leading scorer Anthony Drmic...Thomas Bropleh scored 12 points, his fifth double-figure scoring game of the season...Jeff Elorriaga set a career high with six rebounds...Boise State is now 0-5 all-time against teams currently in the Big Ten Conference...The Broncos last faced a Big Ten foe Dec. 5, 2009, at Illinois.
