Last time out...
Boise State is coming off a strong weekend in Pullman, Wash. where the Broncos earned wins over No. 74 Washington State and in-state rival Idaho. Boise State opened its road trip with a 5-2 win over the Cougars following an exciting end to doubles competition. After splitting the first two doubles matches, Stephanie Jasper and Sandy Vo secured the doubles point for the Broncos with a 9-8 (4) win over Ksenia Googe and Andjela Kankaras at No. 2. Boise State would win four of six singles matches to clinch the team victory.
The Broncos kept their momentum rolling against the Vandals, earning their second win in WAC competition with a 6-1 victory. Boise State swept the doubles matches to score an early advantage over Idaho and never looked back. The Broncos would win five singles matches to blow open the final team score.
Boise State enters this week ranked No. 42 nationally, moving up two spots from the Feb. 14 ITA national rankings. After starting the season at No. 38 the Broncos have managed to remain in the top 45 so far this season.
Boise State currently does not have any players ranked individually in singles or doubles.
A big reason for the Broncos team success so far this season has come as a result of dominant doubles play through the first nine duals of the year. Boise State has won the doubles point in all nine duals, including three duals in which the Broncos swept the doubles matches. Boise State is currently 7-2 at No. 1, 6-3 at No. 2 and 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
Looking at the Wildcats...
Arizona jumped 18 spots to No. 41 in the Feb. 22 ITA national team rankings after an 8-2 start to the 2011 season. The Wildcats big move came on the heels of a 6-1 win over No. 48 Rice last weekend. Arizona's two losses this year came at Fresno State, 4-3, and at No. 49 San Diego, 4-3.
The Wildcats currently have no players ranked individually in singles or doubles.
Looking at the Gaels...
Saint Mary's heads into this weekend ranked in the top 50 despite starting the season with just a 2-5 overall record. The Gaels have been tested mightily already this year however, losing four of their five duals against top 25 opponents. So far this season Saint Mary's has lost to No. 11 UCLA, No. 6 California, No. 39 Sacramento State, No. 24 Mississippi and No. 18 Washington. The Gaels wins came over Fresno State (5-2) and No. 51 TCU (4-3).
Saint Mary's currently has two players ranked in singles as well as one doubles team ranked nationally. Alex Poorta is No. 46 in singles while Catherine Isip is currently No. 77. Isip also has teamed up with Laurie Gingras for a No. 78 ranking in doubles.
