Broncos Shutout Spartans, 5-0

BOISE, Idaho - The No. 67 ranked Boise State women's tennis team opened its weekend double header in near perfect fashion, Saturday (April 2) morning, with a 5-0 shutout of San Jose State at the BOAS Indoor Tennis Complex to improve to 3-0 in Western Athletic Conference competition this spring.

The Broncos (12-6 overall) took control of the dual early on in doubles action, only allowing the Spartans (5-8, 0-1 WAC) to win two total games in three matches.

Stephanie Jasper and Sandy Vo would score the first win of the day for Boise State as they beat Olivia Marshall and Chau Truong, 8-0, at No. 3. Lauren Megale and Marlena Pietzuch wasted no time clinching the doubles point for the Broncos next at No. 1 with an 8-1 win over Sabastiani Leon Chao and Sandra Florea.

Sonia Klamczynska and Elyse Edwards managed to complete the doubles sweep for Boise State last at No. 2 as they knocked off Emily Prescott and Kalin Eshelman, 8-1, to give the Broncos complete momentum and a 1-0 lead heading into singles competition.

Edwards kept things rolling for Boise State in singles as she shutout Marshall, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 to extend the Broncos' lead to 2-0. Klamczynska would put Boise State on the verge of the team win next at No. 2 with the second singles shutout of the day. She beat Christine Nguyen, 6-0, 6-0, to push the Bronco lead to 3-0 in the dual.

Boise State would clinch the team victory moments later with a win at No. 5 as Pietzuch knocked off Prescott, 6-1, 6-0.

Jasper extended the overall lead to 5-0 with a win at No. 3 before the final two singles matches were stopped unfinished. Jasper knocked off Truong, 6-1, 6-3, to score the final point of the dual for the Broncos.

Megale and Morgan Basil both held leads in their singles matches before play was stopped, as they each had won the first set and had the advantage early in the second. Megale led Leon Chao, 6-4, 1-0 at No. 1, while Basil was in front of Florea, 6-0, 4-2, at No. 6.

With the win, Saturday morning, Boise State has now won 13 consecutive duals against WAC opponents dating back to the 2008-09 season. The last conference dual the Broncos lost came at the hands of Fresno State, 4-3, in the WAC tournament championship match on April 25, 2009.
