Broncos Travel to Moscow for Governor's Cup

What's Happening This Week: The Boise State women's soccer team will leave the friendly confines of the Boas Tennis and Soccer Complex for the first time this season when it travels to Moscow, Idaho for the Governor's Cup, Sept. 2-4. The Broncos will start the weekend with a rematch against Montana, the team that spoiled Boise State's season-opener with a 4-3 win in double overtime. The match is slated for a 3 p.m. start, Friday. After a day off, the squad will conclude the tournament against Idaho State, Sunday at noon.

► GAME 5 PREVIEW - MONTANA - The Broncos will take on the Montana Grizzlies Friday, Sept. 2 at 3 p.m.

• The Series: The Broncos have a 5-4-1 advantage over Montana, all time. The last and only time the two sides have met at a neutral field was in 2001, where the Grizzlies came out with a 3-2 win.

• Last Time: The two teams have already met this year for the season-opener in Boise, Aug. 19. Montana was the first to get on the board with a goal by Erin Craig in the 14th minute. The Broncos were able to find an equalizer before halftime with a blast from the foot of Rebe Wolverton in the 41st minute. Boise State benefited from a Montana own goal but the Grizzlies came back with two goals in three minutes to regain the lead, 3-2. The match was all but over in the 90th minute when Erica Parks intercepted the ball off a goal kick and found Kati Lucas who put away a goal with 16 seconds remaining in regulation. After a scoreless first overtime, Montana's India Watne scored the game-winning goal for her squad in the 108th minute.

• Scouting the Grizzlies: The Grizzlies were picked to finish sixth in the eight-team Big Sky Conference. Montana did not play last weekend, remaining undefeated after its two wins during the opening weekend in Boise. Erin Craig leads the team two goals and four points.

► GAME 6 PREVIEW - IDAHO STATE - The Broncos will conclude their weekend with another neutral-site match, this time against the Idaho State Bengals, Sunday at noon.

• The Series: The Bengals own a 7-5-1 record over the Broncos but the two teams are level at 1-1 when playing at a neutral site.

• Last Time: The Broncos last saw Idaho State at the Governor's Cup in Pocatello, Idaho last season. The game was a defensive battle as neither team could find the back of the net in regulation. The two sides went to overtime where the Bengals' Rachel Strawn beat the Boise State keeper Liz Ruiz, placing a ball in the bottom right corner and giving ISU a 1-0 victory.

• Scouting the Bengals: Idaho State was picked seventh in the Big Sky preseason poll but currently sits atop the conference standings with a 3-0-0 record. The Bengals hold an 8-2 goal differential this season in their wins over Southern Utah, Northwest Nazarene and Nevada. Amanda Ellsworth leads the squad with three goals so far this season.
