Boise State Drops Heartbreaker to TCU in Five

BOISE, Idaho (9/29/2011) - Boise State lost a heartbreaker Thursday night  to TCU in five (22-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-18, 15-7) in a Mountain West battle in Boise.  The Broncos held a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set before the Horned Frogs rallied for the victory. Liz Harden led Boise State with 15 kills followed by Fiona Jones with 13 as the Broncos fell to 10-6 overall and 1-2 in conference, TCU improved to 15-1 on the year and 2-0 in league. Next up for Boise State is a home match Saturday night against New Mexico at 7:00 p.m. in the annual pink night "Dig for the Cure."

Boise State opened the match with a tight three-point win 25-22 in the first set which saw 11 ties and four lead changes. The second set saw TCU rally from four down at 10-6 to even the match with a 25-21 victory in set two. Following the break, the third set was another battle with eight ties and four lead changes. Boise State broke open at 15-14 advantage with five straight points which eventually led to a 25-17 win giving the Broncos a one set lead in the match at 2-1.

The Horned Frogs rallied winning the fourth set 25-18 and knotting the match up at two apiece, forcing a fifth and deciding set. Boise State was in the final set early but unfortunately TCU rolled off a 6-1 run to pull away down the stretch for a 15-7 fifth set victory. 

Liz Harden recorded a team-high 16 points on 15 kills and two block assists while hitting .355. Fiona Jones followed with 14.5 points with 13 kills (.200), one ace, 13 digs and one block assist. Breann Nesselhuf added 13.5 points, 12 kills, 33 assists, five digs, one solo block and one block assist. Elizabeth Griffin contributed 12 points, 10 kills and four block assists. Amanda Remy moved into ninth on the Bronco all-time career digs list with 25 on the night giving her a total of 1,047.  Boise State shot .216 (59-23-167) on the night against TCU.

Jordan Raines led the Horned Frogs with 24 points on 21 kills (.419), one ace and four block assists. She was followed by Kristen Hester with 20.5 points on 16 kills, and nine block assists. TCU hit .257 (70-24-179) in the match.
