Broncos Take Time Out for a Little Fun on the Blue

"On The Blue with Boise State and You" is one of the most anticipated times of the year for young patients and their families at the St. Luke's Children's Hospital in Boise.  On Wednesday this week, close to 100 children's hospital patients, brothers, sisters, mom's, dad's and grandparents made their way to Bronco Stadium to watch practice and meet Bronco players.

The Bronco football team and other athletic teams at Boise State regularly make hospital visits to St. Luke's in both Boise and Meridian.  On The Blue allowed the hospital to make the return trip to Boise State and have all players participate in meeting the kids and families.  On The Blue takes place twice during the season, with another group of patients and family members from the St. Luke's Children's Hospital coming out to meet the Bronco players in late-October.

Wednesday's event is just one of a wide number of community outreach projects that Boise State football and Bronco athletics participates in.  Other key events coming up later this fall include the annual Serving Up Wishes Dinner to benefit the Make A Wish Foundation of Idaho, the Red Ribbon Rally at the Idaho Statehouse and Operation School Bell, helping dress kids in need through the Assistance League of Ada County.

Earlier this month, Bronco junior wide receiver Chris Potter was one of 11 student-athletes from the Football Bowl Subdivision named to the 2011 Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team, one of the most prestigious off-field honors in college football.  Potter was joined on this year's team by standout performers Robert Griffin of Baylor, Jared Crick of Nebraska, Matt Barkley of USC and Dayne Crist of Notre Dame.
