Boise State Plays at Air Force in Lone Match of the Week

WHAT'S HAPPENING:  Boise State (11-12, 3-5 MW) plays one match this week and it has the Broncos on the road at Air Force (8-14, 2-6 MW) in a Mountain West contest. The match is schedule for a 7:00 p.m. (Mountain) start Saturday night in Falcon Court at East Gym.   

MW POLL:  Boise State was picked above Air Force in the preseason poll at seventh place while the Falcons were selected ninth.   

THE AIR FORCE-BOISE STATE SERIES:  The Broncos lead the all-time series 5-0 including a straight set win in Boise on Sept. 28th in the first of two meetings this season.     

Last week Boise State dropped a pair of road contests at Colorado State (13-25, 23-25, 16-25) and at Wyoming (25-20, 20-25, 20-25, 23-25). The Broncos are now 11-12 overall and 3-5 in MW play, sitting in a tie for sixth-place with Wyoming. Boise State is 7-2 at home, 2-7 away and 2-3 on neutral courts.

AIR FORCE'S RECORD:  The Falcons bring a 8-14 overall mark and a 2-6 conference record into the weekend with only Boise State on its schedule. Air Force has lost three straight but is 5-4 at home on Falcon Court this season.   

FALCON LEADERS:  Cami Richan leads Air Force with 253 kills and 26 blocks, she is ranked 10th in the league for kills per set on the year at 3.09. Felicia Clement follows with 172 kills and 35 blocks.  

AS A TEAM:  Air Force has hit .160 percent (8th MW) as a team on the year and .151 percent in league. They have held opponents to .216 percent hitting on the year.   

THE LAST TIME:   Boise State defeated Air Force in straight sets 25-14, 25-22, 25-21 on Sept. 28 in Boise.  Boise State opened the first set with a 9-0 run and never let up as the Broncos collected their first conference win of the season against the Falcons. The Broncos never trailed during the first and second sets. The third went back and forth before the Broncos used an 8-1 run to rally from 17-15 down to take a 23-18 lead, eventually winning it by four. Boise State hit .299 percent on the night and held Air Force to .159 percent. Alyssa Gammel and Liz Harden led the Broncos with 11 kills apiece, while Cami Richan led the Falcons with 12 kills followed by Maggie Sherrill with 10.


The Broncos are hitting .226 percent on the year to rank fourth in the Mountain West. In conference matches they are hitting .206 percent (4th MW).

On the year, Boise State leads the MW for overall kills with 1,216 but are ranked second in kills per set at 13.66, the Broncos are third in MW matches at 13.56.

Boise State is second in assists with a per set average of 12.91, in conference play the Broncos are tied for second averaging 12.88.

The Broncos are tied for third in service aces with 109 and in per set average at 1.22.

Defensively, Boise State is third in digs with a per set average of 14.61 and seventh in blocks at 2.06 per set this season. The Broncos are seventh in blocks during league action at 2.03 per set.  


Liz Harden leads the team in kills on the year with 311 for a 3.49 per set average (4th MW). Harden is hitting .267 percent.

Liz Harden is fourth in the Mountain West during league action for kills per set at 3.59, eighth in point average at 3.91.

Liz Harden, RECORD BOOK WATCH - has moved into fourth-place for career points with 1,165.5 to date.  She needs 41 to tie for third at 1,206.5. Note - the points statistic did not start until rally scoring was adopted for the 2001 season.

Liz Harden, RECORD BOOK WATCH - Harden recorded five kills at Colorado State on Oct. 18 to move into 10th-place on the career kills list with 1,040. She currently has 1,044 and needs 11 more to tie Alisha Young (2007-10) with 1,055 for ninth all-time at Boise State.

Alyssa Gammel is second on the team in kills with 305 to rank third in the MW for kills per set at 3.51. She is hitting .199 percent on the season and .183 in MW matches.

Alyssa Gammel is sixth in the MW for points per set on the year at 3.86 with a total of 336 points.

Alyssa Gammel has led or tied for the team lead in kills in 13 of 23 matches. Gammel is second in digs on the team with 222.

Brittany Reardon, a redshirt sophomore middle blocker, is ranked sixth in the MW for hitting percent at .313, she also has a team third-best 165 kills.

Brittany Reardon leads Boise State in blocks with 73.

Taylor Murphey, sophomore rightside hitter, has 118 kills (4th Team) and is second in blocks with 56.

Sarah Webster, redshirt freshman middle blocker, is fourth on the team in blocks with 45. 

Casey Rose, junior setter, is ranked seventh in the MW for assists per set at 6.54. She has a team-high total of 582 assists. She is also ranked seventh in league play with a 7.21 average.

Casey Rose recorded a career-high 45 assists versus UNLV in Bronco Gym on Sept. 22.

Kersti Whitney, senior libero, leads the team defensively with 389 digs to rank third in the MW at 4.37 digs per set, she is fourth in MW action at 4.24 dps.

Kersti Whitney, RECORD BOOK WATCH - reached the 1,000 career digs milestone at New Mexico on Oct. 4 when she recorded 19 to give her 1,013 all-time. In the next match at CSU Bakersfield on Oct. 8 she moved into the top-10 in program history with 12 more digs to give her 1,025 surpassing Cyndi Neece (1993-96) for 10th who had 1,024.

Kersti Whitney, RECORD BOOK WATCH - Whitney currently has 1,100 career digs, she needs to reach 1,160 to tie Jeni Elson for ninth-place.

Sarah Baugh, freshman setter, is second on the team and ninth in the MW for assists per set at 5.12 on the season, she has a total of 435 assists to date.
