BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State soccer team continued its hot streak and will head to the Mountain West Conference Tournament with momentum on its side after a 1-0 win over Nevada, Saturday. The Broncos are now 4-0-1 in their last five matches and will head to San Diego with the No. 3 seed.
Junior Ashley Hruby scored the game-winning goal just before the half, in the 43rd minute. It marks the second-straight season Hruby has scored the game-winner on senior day after doing the same against Idaho last year. The Bronco run started with Shannon Schueren in the midfield who found a running Dominique Banks up the sideline. Banks dished the ball off to Hruby who belted a shot from the right side of the box into the far upper corner, over the keeper's hands for her first goal of the season.
The assist for Banks tallied the first point of her Bronco career while Schueren added to her total, finishing the regular season with six goals and three assists.
A goal ahead, the Broncos did what they have done all season, win. They are now 8-0-0 when scoring the first goal of a match.
Redshirt senior Megan Blanchard earned her first-career win in shutout fashion, playing all 90 minutes and making four saves.
Boise State finished with a 19-14 shots advantage with Lauren Hickok and KT Clayton leading the team with four shots apiece. Besides the 14 shots, the Bronco defense were also pressured by eight corners from the Wolf Pack, but still managed to earn its sixth shutout of the season which ranks tied for third-most in school's history.
The Broncos (9-8-2, 4-2-1 MW) will have a rematch against Nevada in the first round of the Conference Tournament, Wednesday, Oct. 31 in San Diego. The Orange and Blue were picked to finish sixth in the conference, making it the fifth time in the past seven seasons Coach Lucas' team has been underestimated in the preseason coaches' poll.
