COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-Boise State sophomore Tara Glover was named Mountain West Softball Player of the Week for games through March 4, the conference announced Thursday. It is the first weekly honor from the MW for a Bronco position player.
Glover batted .563 (9-for 16) in Boise State's five-game stint at the Wilson/DeMarini Invitational March 2-4, in Tempe, Ariz. Glover recorded a hit in each game, including a three-hit performance against North Dakota State, to help the Broncos to a 4-1 record on the weekend. She scored five runs and drove in three more.
Glover scored twice and stole a base in the Broncos' 16-1, five-inning romp over Howard, before collecting two of Boise State's three hits, including a double, in the team's only loss of the weekend against No. 5/5 Arizona State (4-0).
Saturday she reached base twice against Creighton and stole her second bag of the weekend in a 6-3 win. The sophomore transfer followed that with her best game of the weekend, and it started right away. Against North Dakota State Glover led off the bottom of the first with a triple and came in to score on a wild pitch. It was her third triple of the season, setting a single-season school record. She added two more hits, scored once more and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Glover's RBI came in a three-run fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie between the Broncos and Bison. Boise State went on to win 7-4.
In Boise State's 5-4 win against Wichita State to close the weekend, the speedy Glover flashed some power with her first home run of the season in the third inning as she completed a back-to-back home run display with Jordan Kreiger to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead. She had two hits in the finale. Glover has hit safely in 19 of her first 20 games with the Broncos, including 12 multi-hit games.
The Broncos return to action Friday, at the DeMarini Invitational in Columbia, Mo. Boise State will face No. 12 Missouri twice on the trip.
