BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State women's tennis team has two players ranked regionally and one nationally in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings of the year. Junior Sandy Vo
is ranked 98th nationally and sixth in the Mountain Region for singles, while senior Marlena Pietzuch
is 16th in the region.
Vo is coming off a strong fall season where she went 6-2 overall and advanced to the Mountain Region quarterfinals last November. The Melbourne, Australia, native is one of three Mountain West players ranked in the top 100 nationally. The junior's No. 6 ranking makes her one of 11 MW student-athletes ranked regionally.
"She began her career here playing No. 6 and No. 7 singles her freshman year, it's so awesome to see how much she's improved," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "It's a testament to how open to learning she is, as well as how hard she's worked over the past 2 years." Marlena Pietzuch
also represented the Broncos in the regional rankings coming in at No. 16. The native of Hechingen, Germany, has been a force for Boise State over the last couple years playing primarily at the number one and two singles positions. This past fall the senior competed in three tournaments compiling a 9-3 record in singles, as well as advancing to the round of 16 at the ITA Regional Tournament in November.
The duo will be looked to this spring to provide the leadership for the Broncos who will be competing in their second season as members of the Mountain West. They will lead an experienced squad that returned six of seven players from last year, as well as added five talented newcomers who are coming off solid fall seasons.
The 2013 team campaign begins the weekend of Feb. 1-3 when Seattle University and Weber State come to town for the season openers at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center at Boise State.
