ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The third-seeded Boise State women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the top-seeded San Diego State Aztecs in the Mountain West Tournament finals at the UNM Soccer Complex in Albuquerque, N.M. Despite averaging 2.2 goals per game in their last five matches, the Broncos couldn't score a goal in the championship match.

The game was a battle in the midfield from the first kickoff. The Broncos connected for three shots on goal in the first half, but couldn't put any past the Aztec keeper. In the 39th minute, senior Katy Oehring sent a header off a Bronco corner but it narrowly went wide right.

Redshirt junior Maddy McDevitt made four saves in the first half. San Diego State took a free kick in the 29th minute and McDevitt flew to the bottom left corner to prevent the goal.

Both sides remained scoreless after the first half. Boise State came into the second half looking to break through and find the front line. Ashley Hruby and Dominique Banks made many steps in the midfield to regain possession for the Broncos.

San Diego State found the game-winner in the 70th minute. The Aztecs' Hannah Keane found the ball to her feet in the box and shot the ball just out of McDevitt's reach. McDevitt made six saves in the match and prevented several quality Aztec shots on goal.

The Broncos didn't let up after the San Diego State goal. Oehring connected for another header in the 88th minute but the San Diego State's goalkeeper Melanie Vaughn made the difficult stop.

"It was an incredible week for us," said head coach Jim Thomas. "I am super proud of our kids and their ability to be brave and strong and stick together. When the game gets very difficult and you're very fatigued, you lean on the bonds of the family you have throughout the season. I thought we did a really good job of that today."

Boise State will finish the season 13-7-3 and 6-4-2 in conference play and finish with the most conference wins in Bronco history. McDevitt finishes her career with the single-season win record at 13 wins, single-season shutout record at 8 shutouts and one combined, as well as the single-season goals-against-average record with 0.78.

Boise State's Brooke Heidemann, Katy Oehring and Maddy McDevitt were named to the All Tournament Mountain West team.
