Sexton Ties Lifetime Best at Iowa State Qualifier

AMES, Iowa - Boise State redshirt senior Chase Sexton competed in his final meet as a Bronco on Saturday (March 2) throwing the shot put at the Iowa State Qualifier. Sexton traveled to Ames, Iowa, in attempt to earn a qualifying spot for the NCAA National Championships held in Fayetteville, Ark., March 8 and 9.

Sexton tied his lifetime best of 60'-8.75" (18.51m) to place second at the meet, but it was not enough to advance him from his No. 27 national ranking in the shot put.

The Salem, Ore., native, who only had an indoor season of eligibility remaining, finished his season just 17-inches shy of the nation's top-16 who will earn qualifying spots to the 2013 NCAA National Championships.

Boise State sophomore Emma Bates is the sole team member to hold a top-16 ranking in any event. Bates ran the seventh-fastest 5000-meter time in the country on Friday night (March 1), securing her first trip to the NCAA Indoor National Championships.
