BOISE, Idaho - Boise State softball has added a fifth member to its 2014-15 recruiting class as Rebekah Cervantes has signed a National Letter of Intent, head coach Cindy Ball announced Thursday.
Cervantes (Visalia, Calif./Redwood HS) joins Wednesday's signing quartet of Shawna Burke, Morgan Lamb, Alyssa O'Farrell and Kora Wade.
"We are extremely excited with the addition of Becky to our 2015 class," Ball said. "Her athletic talent as a multi-sport student-athlete will definitely raise the bar for Bronco softball. The future of this class is very promising, not only on the field but also in the classroom and as young leaders in the Bronco community."
Cervantes has excelled as a three-sport student-athlete at Redwood High School in Visalia, playing three varsity seasons as a shortstop on the softball team as well as being an all-league performer in volleyball and basketball.
On the diamond Cervantes is a three-time All-Tulare County selection and following her junior season in 2014 was named West Yosemite League and Tulare County Player of the Year after batting .614 with 11 home runs, 69 runs batted in, 39 runs scored and a slugging percentage of 1.300. Behind her dominant performance, Redwood captured the CIF Central Section Division III title.
She was honored at the end of the 2013-14 athletic year by being named the Visalia Delta-Times/Advance Register All-Tulare County Girls' Athlete of the Year for her overall performance over her three sports. On the volleyball court Cervantes made 295 kills with 297 digs to earn a spot on the All-Tulare County Second Team, then hit 78 3-pointers and was the basketball team's second-leading scorer en route to earning a spot on the All-WYL First Team.
Boise State opens the 2015 season Feb. 6 at the North Texas Tournament in Dallas, taking on Seton Hall (11 a.m. MT) and Texas Southern (3:30 p.m. MT).
