BOISE, Idaho - Boise State sophomore diver Jordan Marthens was named Mountain West Diver of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
The honor is the first of Marthens' career as well as the first weekly diving nod for the Broncos this season. Overall, Boise State has picked up three conference weekly awards in 2014, with Sam Wicks (Oct. 14) and Brittany Aoyama (Nov. 4) being recognized on the swimming side.
Marthens earned this latest honor thanks to another strong performance on platform Dec. 5 at the Jean Freeman Invitational. The Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. native took fourth overall and scored a Mountain West-best 230.75, her second NCAA Zone Qualifying Score of the campaign. Through Dec. 10 Marthens is the only Mountain West diver with a Zone Qualifying Score on platform in 2014-15.
Back in November, Marthens hit her first zone qualifier on platform at the Wildcat Diving Invitational, posting a score of 226.60 to finish second overall. Including Nov. 9's fifth-place finish at the Trojan Diving Invitational, Marthens has finishes in the top five at all three of her platform competitions this season.
No. 23 Boise State returns to action after the New Year, traveling to San Diego for the USD Relay Meet (Jan. 3) and s scrimmage against San Diego State and North Texas (Jan. 6) before ending the trip with a dual at Denver (Jan. 8).
