COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State men's basketball senior Derrick Marks was named the Mountain West Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 1-7, the conference announced Monday. It is the first weekly award for a Bronco this season and the fifth time Marks has earned the honor in his career.
Marks scored 22 points Saturday, to lead Boise State to an 82-71 win at previously-unbeaten Saint Mary's. Marks was 10-for-14 from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers, to lead the Broncos in scoring. He also led Boise State with a season-high seven rebounds, four assists and four steals without committing a turnover in 34 minutes on the floor.
After falling behind early, Marks led a Bronco rally midway through the first half. He scored seven-straight points to give the Broncos their first lead at 19-17 and spark a 16-2 run. Boise State would not trail after his go-ahead basket. Marks finished the first half with 13 points.
The senior also sealed the win in the final minute. Marks hit a three-pointer to beat the shot clock buzzer and extend Boise State's lead to 10 points with 34 seconds left in the game.
The 22-point outing was Marks' second game with at least 20 points this season and the 21st of his career.
Marks and the Broncos open a four-game home stand Tuesday, against Adams State. Boise State will also play at Taco Bell Arena Dec. 11, Dec. 14 and Dec. 20, before hitting the road again.
