CORVALLIS, Ore. -The 16th-ranked Boise State gymnastics team finished second in the Oregon State Comfort Suites Invitational with a score of 196.00, Saturday (Feb. 15). The Broncos (10-3) finished behind 13th-ranked OSU who scored a 196.675, while Utah State (194.025) and Seattle Pacific (192.650) finished in third and fourth, respectively.
Boise State opened the night on the uneven bars scoring a 49.175, followed by scores of 48.425 on balance beam, 49.325 on floor exercise and 49.075 on vault.
"I'm very proud of this team for getting the job done week after week," said co-head coach Tina Bird. "They are competing well on the road and we are excited to bring this momentum home to Bronco Nation this coming weekend."
Senior Amanda Otuafi and freshman Diana Mejia led the Broncos each collecting event wins. Otuafi scored a season-best 9.925 on vault to earn her second win on the event this season and seventh of her career. Her seventh win moves her to a tie for 10th on the all-time career vault wins list at Boise State.
Mejia claimed the bars title with a career-best score of 9.925, earning her second-career win on the event.
Ciera Perkins finished just behind Otuafi and Mejia placing third on vault and tying with teammate Kelsey Morris for third on bars, scoring 9.875's on both events. Perkins scored a 9.90 to tie for second on floor, adding to a successful night for the junior. Morris tied for second in the all-around with a score of 39.175.
Joining Perkins as a top Bronco on floor, senior Kelsey Black scored a 9.875 to tie for fourth. Krystine Jacobsen earned the top finish for Boise State on beam, scoring a 9.775 and tying for fifth.
Oregon State's Chelsea Tang won the all-around with a score of 39.325, while also tying with teammate Madeline Gardiner on beam with a 9.875 for the win. Gardiner rounded out the day's event winners, taking the floor title with a 9.950 score.
Boise State falls to 1-37 against OSU, improves to 32-55 against USU and holds a significant 50-9 lead over SPU all-time.
The Broncos return home next week to host San Jose State, Friday, Feb. 21. The meet is the first of three straight home meets and is slated for 7 p.m. at Boise State's Taco Bell Arena.
