CEDAR CITY, Utah - Boise State's Kelsey Morris and Kelsey Black have been named the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Gymnast and Specialist of the Week after strong outings against the University of Iowa on Friday night. The Bronco sweep marks the second straight week and third week overall this season that BSU has taken both awards in the same week.
Morris tallied the highest all-around score this season among MRGC schools with a career-high 39.500, the third-highest total in school history to earn Gymnast of the Week honors. Her finish included career highs on vault (9.850), bars (9.950) and beam (9.850) and was punctuated by a 9.850 on the floor exercise. Along with the all-around title, Morris also picked up an individual title on bars.
Black competed on three events for the Broncos, scoring a 9.900 on vault and bars to finish first and second on each event, respectively. Black finished her night with a 9.800 on floor to pick up her first Specialist of the Week award this season.
The Mountain Rim Gymnastics Championship is a gymnastics-specific alliance among five member schools: Brigham Young University, Boise State University, the University of Denver, Southern Utah University and Utah State University. The alliance is not a formally recognized conference by the NCAA, but is in the process of gaining said status for the 2014-15 season.
