COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State junior Garrett Patton has been named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors for matches played April 9-15. It is Patton's first MW weekly accolade this season and the fifth for the Broncos this spring.
Last week Patton went a combined 5-1 in singles and doubles play to help No. 24 Boise State to victories over UC Irvine (5-2 on April 11), Idaho (5-0 on April 12) and conference foe San Diego State (4-3 on April 12).
He recorded the match-clinching point against the Aztecs on April 12, as he rallied from a set down to defeat Hendrik Jebens in three sets at No. 4 singles. After dropping the first set 6-4, Patton rallied to take the second set 6-4 to force a deciding third set. In the final set, Patton battled back from a 5-3 deficit to win the match in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7).
Earlier in the day Patton fought back from a set down to top Idaho's Jose Bendeck at No. 2 singles, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5). On April 11, he set down UC Irvine's Jonathan Hammel in straight sets at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
Patton and doubles partner Brendan McClain went 2-1 on the week, scoring an 8-3 victory over UC Irvine in No. 1 doubles and 8-4 versus San Diego State at No. 2 doubles. The pair's lone setback was in a No. 1 doubles match, as they fell in a tiebreak 8-7 (6) against Idaho.
