MOSCOW, Idaho - Boise State opened the Nike Invitational at Moscow, Idaho, with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-20) loss to the Missouri Tigers Friday afternoon in Memorial Gym. Boise State struggled for consistency and Missouri's experience as the Tigers controlled momentum most of the way in claiming the victory. Freshman Sierra Nobley led the Bronco attack with nine kills as Boise State fell to 3-4 on the year. Boise State will play instate-rival Idaho tonight at 8 p.m. (Mountain) to close the opening day of the tournament.
It was the fifth time in seven contests that the freshman from Scottsdale, Ariz., led the Blue and Orange in kills as Nobley recorded a team-best nine against the Tigers. She also added one assist, one ace, six digs and one block to her match totals.
Kaitlyn Oliver followed with eight kills while hitting 35 percent against Missouri, adding one dig and two blocks. Maddy O'Donnell chipped in with a team-high 40 percent hitting for five kills to go along with her team-best four blocks. The sophomore ranked sixth-nationally in serving continues to be solid from the line tallying two more aces to give her a season total of 13. Sarah Baugh dished out 28 assists to go with her team-second-best eight digs. Senior Alyssa Gammel led the team defensively with a high of 10 digs versus the Tigers.
The Broncos finished the match with 31 kills, 31 assists, three service aces, 39 digs and six blocks. Meanwhile, Missouri countered by hitting 31 percent for 43 kills, they also added 38 assists, two aces, 49 digs and six blocks. The Tigers had two players finish in double-digit kills led by Emily Wilson with 14 and team-best three blocks, followed by Carly Kan with 11 kills and 17 digs.
