Nov. 9, 2015

"Meet the Broncos" is a series of interviews conducted by Boise State graduate student Daniel Wray. He is a graduate intern with the women's basketball program while working on his masters in English.

Brittney Pahukoa
Junior, Guard, No. 40
Lake Stevens, Washington

Q: Tell us about Lake Stevens, what's it like?
A: Lake Stevens is a pretty small town. We do actually have a lake, go figure; it rains a lot, just a pretty normal small town. Not anything super unique.

Q: What's a typical day like for you when you're home?
A: In the summer I wake up and usually go work out, I like spending time with my grandparents who live about 15 minutes away, hang out with my friends, just sort of hang around with family and friends. We don't get to go home too often.

Q: Who is your favorite superhero?
A: I think The Avengers in general, but if I had to pick one…um Iron Man is pretty funny…I don't know. If I had to pick one of The Avengers' movies I'd probably pick Iron Man. Brooke would probably say The Avengers too.

Q: Do you have a favorite Dessert?
A: Chocolate on chocolate on chocolate on chocolate. In any form. You give it to me and I'll eat it.

Q: Where's your favorite place to play?
A: I like playing in Bronco Gym. I like how it's smaller and it gets really loud in there. We usually play at least one game a year in there.

Q: What about arenas not on campus?
A: I liked playing at Tennessee. It was really cool. If I had to choose one place it would probably be Tennessee.

Q: What made you decide to come and play for Boise State?
A: The facilities are great. And I really liked the small town feel that Boise has, but there's still everything here. I mean there are like eight movie theatres in Boise alone which is crazy. And everyone here is really into Boise State and the athletics which makes things really exciting. The coaches were all really sincere and kind when I first came on my visit. I didn't meet the girls, but I knew that the coaches would be recruiting girls that I'd be able get along with.

Q: So you said Boise has everything, what are some things you like to do around town?
A: Five dollar movies on Tuesdays…Shay and I go to movies almost every Tuesday. I like to float the river during the summer and then my grandparents live in Caldwell so some weekends I'll go visit them.

Q: Outside of sports, who would you say is the most influential person in your life?
A: Probably my mom. She taught me that life is more than just basketball and sports. She taught me that you need to be a good person, and to be confident in yourself outside of sports.

Q: What are some of your goals for the upcoming season?
A: Definitely to do better in our preseason and make it further in the NCAA tournament than we did last season.

Q: What about some goals for you individually?
A: Uh not get hurt? I just want to play…

Q: What do the Boise State fans out there need to know about you?
A: BSU fans need to know how much I appreciate them and their support. They come to all our games and they cheer loud and it really does help us play better. You can tell that it affects the outcome of the game.

Q: What about you as a person…what do Boise State fans need to know?
A: Oh I don't know…(Shay Shaw can be heard from the background - Tell them you're bossy!) I'm not bossy! I guess I cut my hair so now Brooke's hair is longer than mine. That's the easiest way to tell us apart. She looks like me now, it's weird. I'm more quiet and reserved than Brooke is. If I don't make eye contact at first then it's probably me, but if someone walks up and says "hey what's up?" it's probably Brooke.

Coach Presnell on Brittney - "Britt has the ability to make a play. She can get that rebound that you need, or hit that dagger shot. We're hoping that she can take a big step forward this year".

You can see Brittney and the rest of the defending Mountain West Conference Tournament Champions as they open the season at home against Cal State Los Angeles on Friday, November 13, in Bronco Gym, tip-off is scheduled for 7p.m.
