BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State wrestling team dropped a Pacific-12 Conference dual against Stanford Sunday at Bronco Gym, falling 18-17 to the Cardinal.
The Broncos (2-6, 0-3 Pac-12) didn't trail in the dual until the conclusion of the final match.
Cody Dixon started the dual with a victory for the Broncos, knocking off Garet Krohn via 7-4 decision. Stanford (10-2, 4-1) tied things up at heavyweight, but Carson Kuhn put the Broncos back in front with a 7-3 victory over 15th-ranked Evan Silver.
Kuhn has wrestled just six times this year, and has won each of his last four matches. Included are two wins over ranked opponents.
Stanford once again tied things up with a victory at 133 (6-6), but seventh-ranked Geordan Martinez picked up a technical fall over Mason Pengilly (6:34; 18-2) at 141 pounds to put the Broncos back in front.
Following a Cardinal win at 149, Steven Hernandez picked up his seventh pin of the season, sticking Maxwell Hvolbek in 34 seconds.
The Broncos led 17-9 following Hernandez's win, but Stanford closed the dual with three-consecutive decisions, inching ahead for the victory.
Boise State will continue its homestand with a pair of Pac-12 duals this week, hosting Cal Poly Thursday (Feb. 5) at Bronco Gym, and CSU Bakersfield Friday (Feb. 6) at Centennial High School. Each dual is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
The Broncos will also travel to Oregon State Sunday (Feb. 8) for this year's second edition of the Border War. Boise State and Oregon State will hit the mat at 9 p.m., and the dual will be televised live on the Pac-12 Network.
