Boise State Falls 4-0 to No. 24 South Florida

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Feb. 20, 2015) - Boise State fell to top-seeded and 24th-ranked South Florida 4-0 Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic at Montgomery, Ala. The Bulls took the doubles point 2-0 then closed the Broncos out with three straight singles victories. The loss ended Boise State's hopes of three-peating as the Blue Gray champions falling to 3-6 overall on the year. The 57th-ranked Broncos will face No. 35 Auburn Saturday afternoon in the consolation bracket.

The match opened with the doubles portion of the competition where USF claimed the valuable team point 2-0 over Boise State. Abe Hewko and Thomas Tenreiro were the first to fall for Boise State suffering a 6-1 defeat on court two.

Brian Foley and Danny Moyer battled hard on court three but came up on the short end of a 7-5 score to the Bulls' Sasha Gozun and Vadym Kalyuzhnyy. The loss clinched the team point for USF.

The final doubles match on court one was suspended once the point was decided, but Boise State's Toby Mitchell and Garrett Patton were leading 6-5 when the match was stopped.

The Bulls won the first three singles matches completed on the day to take the team victory. Ignacio Gonzalez defeated Boise State's Mitchell 6-0, 6-1 on court three for a 2-0 advantage.

That was followed with a 6-3, 6-3 loss by Hewko to USF's Kalyuzhnyy at No. 5 singles. The decisive point came at No. 6 singles where Bronco freshman Danny Moyer fought hard but fell in two sets 6-4, 6-1 to Everth Dzib.
