MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Feb. 20.2015) - Boise State was in Montgomery, Ala., Friday afternoon where they faced eighth-ranked Alabama on the opening day of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic where the Broncos fell 4-0. The Broncos battled hard but lost the doubles point 2-0, then fell in the first three singles matches completed. Boise State moved to 4-3 overall with the loss and will now face No. 60 Princeton (2-6) Saturday afternoon in the consolation bracket.

"We battled with Alabama today in what was a great college tennis match. We were right in the mix from the get go and it was great to see us pick up sets in many of the matches," said coach Beck Roghaar. "Megan (LaLone), Bobbi (Oshiro), and Sammie (Watson) were looking good and in great positions when we dropped the final point. Megs had just split sets with a player ranked in the top 50 in college tennis. Great for our program to see we can compete with a team of that caliber and we will take a lot from that moving into tomorrow's match against a tough Princeton team."

The Crimson Tide claimed the doubles team point by sweeping the first two matches on courts one and three. Sammie Watson and Bobbi Oshiro took on the defending NCAA national champions and the current sixth-ranked pair in Alabama's Maya Jansen and Erin Routliffe falling 6-2 on court one.

Not long afterwards Teal Vosburgh and Milena Toseva went down 6-1 on court three to Luicelena Perez and Aryn Greene. The third doubles match was stopped once the team point was decided, but Boise State's Arianna Paules Aldrey and Megan LaLone were leading 4-3.

Alabama claimed the victory with singles wins on courts one, two and four. Vosburgh took on the Tides' Routliffe, who is ranked 33rd nationally, on court one where she fell 6-4, 6-2. Toseva fell at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-1 to 73rd-ranked Danielle Spielmann, while Paules Aldrey lost on court four to Alabama's Zabor 6-1, 6-0.

The last three singles matches were stopped once the team victory was decided. But the three Broncos had either earned splits or were close to it when play was halted. LaLone rallied at No. 3 singles after dropping the first set 6-1 to 50th-ranked Maya Jansen. She then earned the split with a 6-4 victory and would have forced the third set but the match was stopped.

At No. 5 singles Bobbi Oshiro won the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (tiebreak not available) and was trailing 2-1 when the match was abandoned. Watson was about to earn a split on court six when it ended. The senior lost set one 6-2 then battled back to take a 5-3 lead in the second.
