BOISE, Idaho - Sophomore swimmer Brittany Aoyama was named Mountain West Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
It is Aoyama's second honor of the season, having previously captured it Nov. 4, and the fifth of her career. Tuesday's honor is also the fourth for Boise State this season, as Sam Wicks (Oct. 14) and diver Jordan Marthens (Dec. 16) have also been recognized.
Aoyama's latest honor comes on the heels of going 4-for-4 this past Saturday in Boise State's 163-97 victory over Nevada. The win was the 18th-straight at home for the Broncos and improved the team to 5-1 this season in dual meets.
Aoyama was part of two winning relay teams (400 medley relay, 200 free relay) and captured a pair of individual events in the 50 free and 100 fly. She set the Boise West YMCA long-course pool record in the 50 free with a time of 23.21 then dominated the field in the 100 fly, touching the pad in 54.70, over three seconds ahead of runner-up Erin Fuss of Nevada.
Boise State returns to action at the Mountain West Championships from Feb. 18-21 in San Antonio, Texas. The Broncos will be going for the program's second straight Mountain West title and third overall at the meet.
