Broncos Fall in Border War

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Boise State wrestling team picked up a pair of decisions against Oregon State in this year's second edition of the Border War, but the Broncos fell to the Beavers 29-6 Sunday evening at Gill Coliseum.

Three of the first four matches of the night were decided by two-or-fewer points, but each decision went in favor of Oregon State as the Beavers jumped out to a 12-0 lead. Both Austin Dewey (174 pounds) and Cody Dixon (197) were taken down in the waning seconds of their matches, falling 3-1 and 8-7, respectively.

At 285, Gaylen Edmo fell 2-1 in double overtime.

The Beavers followed with two more victories, increasing their lead to 21-0 before the Broncos got on the board.

Geordan Martinez, ranked as high as fifth nationally at 141 pounds, earned a 13-7 decision over Devin Reynolds, his sixth-consecutive victory.

Boise State also got a win at 165, where Chris Castillo closed the dual with a 5-3 decision over Seth Thomas.

The Broncos will return to Gill Coliseum for the Pac-12 Championships, March 1. But first, Boise State will travel once more, squaring off against Wyoming in Rock Springs, Wyo., Feb. 15. Boise State will hit the mat in its final dual of the regular season at 2 p.m. MT.
