ST. LOUIS - Boise State freshman Geordan Martinez won each of his two matches in the opening session of Friday's action at the 2015 NCAA Wrestling Championships, and is one win shy of garnering All-America status.
With the victories, Martinez advanced to the fourth round of the wrestle-back. Seeded eighth at 141 pounds entering the national championships, Martinez will face Dean Heil of Oklahoma State, seeded 14th, tonight.
With a victory over Heil, Martinez will become just the second true freshman in school history to earn All-America honors, guaranteed at least an eighth-place finish at the tournament.
After going 1-1 on the opening day of the tournament and dropping to the wrestle-back Thursday, Martinez opened Saturday with a first-period fall over Matt Longo of Appalachian State (1:40).
He followed with a 6-4 (SV-1) victory over Mike Morales of West Virginia, the tournament's No. 16 seed.
Tonight's second session is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. MT, and every match is being televised by ESPN3.
