Sperbeck On Biletnikoff Award Watch List

July 15, 2015

BOISE, Idaho -- Junior wide receiver Thomas Sperbeck was named to the 2015 Preseason Watch List for the Fred Biletnikoff Award, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced Wednesday.

The award is given annually to the nation's top collegiate receiver, and is named for Fred Biletnikoff, who starred collegiately at Florida State before going on to catch 589 passes for 8,974 yards and 76 touchdowns over a 14-year, Hall-of-Fame career with the Oakland Raiders (1965-78). Biletnikoff was also named Most Valuable Player of the Raiders' Super Bowl XI victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

The Biletnikoff Award banquet is scheduled for Feb. 7, 2016 at Doak Walker Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla.

Sperbeck earned inclusion on the 2015 watch list after a breakout 2014 season in which he led the Broncos with 877 receiving yards while hauling in 51 passes, three of which went for touchdowns. Sperbeck, while appearing in all 14 games, started eight, stepping into the starting lineup in October after Matt Miller's season-ending injury at Air Force on Sept. 27.

The Carmichael, Calif. native thrice eclipsed the 100-yard mark in receiving in 2014, highlighted by career bests of 12 catches and 199 yards en route to being named Offensive Most Valuable Player of the VIZIO Fiesta Bowl following Boise State's 38-30 win over No. 10 Arizona.
