Fall Camp: Day 4

Aug. 9, 2015

BOISE, Idaho - The first weekend of Boise State football's fall camp is in the books, and Sunday's featured Broncos come from the wide-receiver corps as Akilian Butler and Thomas Sperbeck are the Newcomer and Camper of the Day, presented by Lithia Ford.

Sperbeck enters his junior season in 2015 after a breakout sophomore year in which he caught 51 passes for a team-high 877 yards with three touchdowns. He set career bests at the VIZIO Fiesta Bowl with 12 catches for 199 yards en route to being named the game's offensive MVP following Boise State's 38-30 win over No. 10 Arizona.

Entering 2015, Sperbeck is a preseason candidate for the Fred Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the top receiver in college football.

Like Saturday's featured newcomer, Ladarryl Blair, Butler also comes to Boise from Dallas, Texas. Butler also shares a common bond with a pair of Broncos through his prep career at West Mesquite High School, as current collegiate teammates Dylan Sumner-Gardner and Kameron Miles also starred for the Wranglers.

As a senior in 2014, Butler caught 48 passes for 686 yards and 12 touchdowns as the Wranglers went 9-3 and reached the second round of the Texas 5A Division I state tournament. Over his final three seasons at West Mesquite, he had 114 receptions for 1,532 yards and 20 touchdowns and was named first-team all-district each year.

Bronco fans can get to know Butler a little more below, and can follow the latest updates and behind-the-scenes happenings of Fall Camp as well as with the many Boise State programs by adding us on Snapchat at "broncoathletics" from a mobile device or tablet.
