BOISE, Idaho â€" Junior swimmer Brittany Aoyama of the Boise State swimming and diving team was named the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week Tuesday. The honor is her second of the season and seventh of her career.
The honor is also the third of the season for Boise State's swimmers. Aoyama was previously recognized on Nov. 3 while senior Sam Wicks claimed the award Nov. 24.
Aoyama captured four victories and scored 40 points for the Broncos in Saturday's 156-144 victory over Denver at the Boise West YMCA. Along with her individual wins in the 100 fly and 100 free, Aoyama was part of the winning quartets in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. In the latter event, the final swim of the meet, Boise State needed a victory to seal the meet in their favor, and Aoyama swam the leadoff leg for the team (which also included Katelyn Martin, Emma Chard and Felicity Cann) which recorded a time of 3:23.01, tenth-fastest in school history.
Aoyama currently owns the Mountain West's top time this season in the 100 fly (52.99) and is part of four Boise State relays (400 free relay, 800 free relay, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay) which hold the conference's top times.
The Broncos will conclude their dual season Saturday (Jan. 30) at the Boise West YMCA, hosting Oregon State at noon.
