NEW ORLEANS - For the second time this season, Brenna Peloquin has been named the USTFCCCA Division I Women's Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the week of Oct. 10-16. She won her second meet of the season this past Friday at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wis., clocking a time of 20:00.8 on the 6-kilometer course.
Peloquin took down New Mexico's Alice Wright (20:01.9) and Notre Dame's Anna Rohrer (20:03.4) in the last 400 meters, securing her second cross country victory of her collegiate career.
The sophomore spent the majority of the race amongst the leaders in the top five, but she made sure to also have a runner or two in front of and beside her to combat what was an extremely windy day. The Gig Harbor Wash., native made a solid move with roughly 1,000 meters to go, and eventually had to turn on the jets one more time to drop Wright and Rohrer.
Peloquin is now the only Bronco in school history to garner the prestigious USTFCCCA weekly honor twice over the course of a collegiate career. Allie Ostrander earned the honor last year on Oct. 19, 2015 after winning the Wisconsin adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis., and Emma Bates received the award on Oct. 21, 2013 after the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.
Peloquin also earned the honor after winning the Roy Griak Invitational individual title on Sept. 24. She clocked a time of 20:50 on the 6-kilometer course, securing an 11-second victory over Michigan's Erin Finn (21:01).
She and the rest of the Broncos will now focus their attention on the upcoming Mountain West Cross Country Championships that Boise State will host at Falcon Crest Golf Club in Kuna, Idaho on Friday, Oct. 28. The women's race will go off at 10 a.m. (MT) and the men will follow at 10:45 a.m. Admission and parking are both free.
