BOISE, Idaho - Boise State released the 2016 women's volleyball schedule this afternoon. The slate includes 31 matches, 18 Mountain West contests, seven encounters against 2015 NCAA Tournament participants and nine against teams ranked in the top 75 in the final 2015 RPI. The schedule also includes the five-team Boise State Classic in the Broncos only home nonconference matches of the season. It will arguably be one of the strongest nonconference schedules the Boise State volleyball program has ever faced as it prepares for a run at the Mountain West Conference title.

The season begins with the annual Bronco intra-squad scrimmage on Thursday, August 18, in the newly renovated Bronco Gym.

The regular season opener is August 27 in Fort Worth, Texas, when Boise State travels to play Northwestern State (La.) out of the Southland Conference in the first round of the TCU Tournament. While there the Broncos will also take on the Atlantic Coast Conference's North Carolina State Wolfpack and the TCU Lady Frogs of the Big 12 Conference. TCU advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament last year and finished at No. 52 in the RPI.

Week two has Boise State on the road in Ohio where the Broncos will participate in two tournaments. They open with the Golden Flashes Classic on Friday, Sept. 2, in Kent, Ohio, where they will play both Wright State of the Horizon League and Kent State from the Mid-American Conference. The weekend concludes in Cleveland where they will play Cleveland State of the Horizon League as part of CSU Invitational on Sept. 3. Kent State was ranked No. 98 in the 2015 RPI, while Cleveland State was No. 62 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

The third week of the season has the Broncos traveling across the state to Pocatello, Idaho, where they will compete in the Idaho State Invitational Sept. 8-10. They open with rival Idaho State of the Big Sky Conference on Thursday, Sept. 8, then followed up with encounters against the West Coast Conference's Brigham Young Cougars and the Southeastern Conference's Missouri Tigers. All three finished in the top 56 of the 2015 RPI with ISU coming in at No. 56, BYU was 11 and Missouri 18. BYU is the defending WCC champion and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, while Missouri reached the second round.

Nonconference ends with the five-team Boise State Classic, Sept. 15-17, featuring Portland State of the Big Sky Conference, UC Davis from the Big West Conference, Santa Clara of the WCC and the Pacific-12 Conference's Arizona State Sun Devils. Both Santa Clara and ASU advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2015, while SCU was ranked No. 37 in the final RPI and ASU No. 40.

Mountain West play begins the next weekend with the Broncos opening on the road at UNLV and New Mexico, Sept. 22 and 24. This year's league race is expected to be a battle with a number of teams poised to fight for the conference title.

Boise State's home MW contests include: San Diego State (Sept. 29), Nevada (Oct. 1), Utah State (Oct. 8), New Mexico (Oct. 20), UNLV (Oct. 22), Fresno State (Nov. 10), San Jose State (Nov. 12), Colorado State (Nov. 16) and the regular season finale against Air Force (Nov. 22).

This year's two one-match MW opponents are Colorado State which plays at Boise State, while the Broncos will travel to Wyoming (Nov. 18) for their lone encounter. Colorado State is the last NCAA Tournament participant from 2015 that the blue and orange will face. Both CSU (No. 25) and Wyoming (No. 42) finished in the top 50 in last year's final RPI.

It promises to be an exciting season for Boise State volleyball which went 23-7 overall and 15-3 in league play last season, placing second. The Broncos also return eight letterwinners and four of their five All-Mountain West honorees from 2015. Maddy O'Donnell is a two-time all-league selection, while Kaitlyn Oliver, Sierra Nobley and Maddi Osburn were also all-conference honorees. In addition, Nobley was an honorable-mention AVCA All-American.

Do not forget the action begins wit the scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 18, with the home opener against Portland State on Thursday, Sept. 15. The challenge is on for Bronco Nation to pack Bronco Gym for all 13 home matches in 2016!!!
