MARICOPA, Ariz. - The one-two punch of Brian Humphreys and Donny Hopoi continues to power the Boise State men's golf team to success.
Humphreys and Hopoi notched their third straight top 25 finish of the season - and second top 10 finish this fall - placing second and tied for sixth, respectively, at the Southern Dunes Invitational.
"We did some things well this week. Brian played outstanding and Donny played nicely," Boise State head coach Dan Potter said. "Unfortunately, we had some rounds get away from us and that cost us. We'll learn from this one and be ready again next week."
Humphreys concluded each round in the top two of the leaderboard, and closed the gap during Sunday's third round with a 3-under 69 on the par-72, 7,546-yard Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course.
The sophomore was tied for first in the field with 16 birdies, and finished the tournament at 10-under (66-71-69 - 206) to place second to Loyola-Marymount's Riley Elmes. Through three tournaments this fall, Humphreys has yet to shoot a round over-par.
Hopoi was equally impressive in the closing stages of the tournament. After shooting 75 in the tournament's opening round, the senior rebounded with back-to-back rounds under-par to finish at 2-under (75-69-70 - 214).
The play of the two Broncos propelled Boise State to a third place finish as a team, shooting a combined 866 (290-290-286, +2).
The Broncos led the field in par-5 scoring (4.70), while the team's 48 birdies were good for third. The team also carded three eagles.
