BOISE, Idaho - Boise State men's golf will be in action this Monday-Tuesday (Feb. 13-14), as the roster splits off for a pair of tournaments. Heading to Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., for the PRO Compression Invitational is the quintet of senior Kyle Mitsunaga, junior Donny Hopoi, and freshmen Brian Humphreys, Connor Johnstone and Mason Schulze. A second group of five, consisting of senior David Elliott, juniors Jacob Byers and Tristan Rohrbaugh, and sophomores Connor Bell and Alex Francois will head to St. George, Utah, for the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational.
In Rancho Santa Fe, the Bronco quintet of Mitsunaga, Hopoi, Humphreys, Johnstone and Schulze will tee off on the par-72, 6,974-yard course at The Farms Golf Club. They'll be part of a 12-team field that includes host San Diego, Cal Poly, Idaho, LMU, Sacramento State, Seattle University, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, Western Carolina and Wichita State. The two-day, three-round event begins Monday at 9:15 a.m. MT with a shotgun start, with the first two rounds being played. Golfers will tee off between 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. MT for Tuesday's final round.
The Broncos posted their third top-five finish of the season in the spring opener at the Folino Invitational two weeks ago (Jan. 30-31), posting a team score of 893 (+29). That effort was led by top-six finishes from Humphreys (+1, third) and Hopoi (+3, sixth). For Humphreys, it was his third top-three finish of the season and earned him the first Mountain West Golfer of the Week honor of the spring. Johnstone finished at 10-over to tie for 25th, his first top-25 finish.
Elliott, Byers, Rohrbaugh, Bell and Francois will play at the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Course. The tournament will feature two rounds over two days, with play scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. each day.
