Broncos Falter in Border War

BOISE, Idaho â€" The Boise State wrestling team rallied from a 13-0 deficit to tie the score at 13 after six matches, but fell to rival Oregon State, 31-13, Friday at Taco Bell Arena in the 50th edition of the Border War.

The dual was held side-by-side with the women's gymnastics team for the 15th Beauty and the Beast, in front of a crowd of 2,987 â€" the fourth highest attendance in the event's history.

The Broncos (1-8, 0-3 Pac-12) picked up three straight wins from Fred Green (157), Demetrius Romero (165) and Austin Dewey (174) to tie at 13.

Green needed only 2:16 to pin the Beavers' Abraham Rodriguez. The pin his team-leading ninth of the season and ended a two match losing streak for the redshirt freshman.

Redshirt freshman Demetrius Romero led from start to finish to win a 5-0 decision over Weston Dobler. The win ended a four-match losing streak, and puts him a win shy of a 20-win season in his debut campaign from the Broncos.

Tied at 5-5 halfway through the second period, Dewey used a takedown and turned his opponent, Bob Coleman, over for four nearfall points to take an 11-5 lead. The redshirt senior continued to maintain control throughout the remainder of the match to win a 17-7 major decision.

Dewey has 10 bonus point victories this season â€" second on the team.

With the score tied and a chance to capitalize at 184 pounds, Kadyn Del Toro trailed 3-2 with a minute left in the third period after getting an escape. The redshirt sophomore would give up the takedown to lose his first Pac-12 match this season.

Oregon State (4-6, 2-0 Pac-12) jumped to the early with bonus point victories at 125 and 141 pounds. They ended the dual with falls at 285 and 125 pounds to win their second conference dual this week.

Boise State will conclude the regular season, Feb. 12 with a double-header against Cal Poly and Arizona State. The Broncos are still seeking their first Pac-12 win since Nov. 22, 2015.

The dual against Cal Poly will begin 2 p.m. at Bronco Gym, followed by the dual against Arizona State at 4 p.m.
