BOISE, Idaho - Boise State freshman Brian Humphreys was named Mountain West Golfer of the Week Tuesday, earning the honor thanks to a third-place finish at the Folino Invitational (Jan. 30-31) in the Broncos' spring opener.
It is the second conference honor this season for Humphreys, who was previously named Mountain West Golfer of the Month for October/November. He is also the first Bronco men's golfer to earn the conference's weekly honor since Kyle Mitsunaga shared it on April 15, 2015.
Humphreys fired rounds of 73-72-72 to finish the Folino Invitational, played on the par-72 Industry Hills Golf Club, at 1-over (217), finishing third in the 60-player field. It was his third top-three performance of his debut collegiate season, following medalist honors at the Ogio Utah Invitational (Oct. 3-4) and a runner-up finish at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational (Oct. 27-29) in the fall. Combined with junior Donny Hopoi's sixth-place finish, Humphreys' effort helped the Broncos take fifth at the event, the program's third top-five finish of the season.
Boise State will return to action early next week, splitting off as one quintet competes at the PRO Compression Invitational in San Diego while a second group of five heads to St. George, Utah, for the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational. Both tournaments take place from Feb. 13-14.
