USAFA, Colo. - Boise State women's tennis started its crucial late-season road trip Friday, by snapping Air Force's seven match win streak with a 4-3 win. The Broncos (12-6) snagged the doubles point to take an early lead and scrapped their way to a split in singles, including Kirsty Venter's comeback win on court six to clinch the victory.

"Today's match was a really big step forward for our young team," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "We showed a lot of maturity. We lost a lot of first sets in singles, but came back and battled. We hung in there and found a way."

Venter lost her first set 6-1 but stormed back to claim a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2, finishing the match with an ace to put an exclamation mark on the win. She was awarded the Bronco Bandanna as the player of the match.

The sophomore also stepped into the doubles lineup for the first time in Mountain West play, teaming with Jovana Kuljanin for a 6-4 win at the No. 3 position. The freshman duo of Anja Dokic and Lilian Poling came through with a 6-4 win of their own at No. 2 doubles to clinch the point for Boise State.

"To come out and compete the way we did against Air Force's tough and well-coached doubles group was really important," said Roghaar. "We've seen it all year: getting the doubles point in these tight matches is vital. We did exactly what we needed to do."

Undeterred, the Falcons took the first set in four singles matches and won in straight sets on courts one and five to take a lead.

Hanna Kantenwein's 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles knotted the score back up and Nancy Menjivar posted her own 7-5, 6-1 win on court four to move the Broncos one match away from the win. Air Force's TJ Fumagalli stayed perfect on the season, fighting off Lilian Poling at the No. 2 position, setting up Venter's heroics on court six.

Boise State continues its road swing Sunday, at New Mexico. The Lobos (4-11) won their third straight match Friday, with a 4-1 victory against Utah State. The Broncos are 2-1 in divisional play with two conference matches remaining.
