The Bronco Athletic Association (BAA) provided a record $5.1 million in scholarship support to Boise State student-athletes for the fiscal year ending June 30. The scholarship support represents an increase of more than $800,000 from last year's total.
Contributions from BAA members represent nearly 30 percent of the athletic department's budget.
"BAA members have been providing terrific support over the years, and as costs rise, our donors continue to step up," Director of Athletics Curt Apsey said.
The goal of the BAA is to fully cover the cost of all student-athlete scholarships, which includes providing full cost of attendance to each of Boise State's 19 athletic programs. A priority for the department is to add new BAA members and generate additional funds to reach the scholarship goal every year, estimated to be more than $5.4 million this next year.
"There is a significant cost in assuring our student-athletes are provided the best experience possible during their time as Broncos," Apsey said. "Our goal is to continue raising the bar as we fund championship-caliber programs and recruiting impressive student-athletes that make our BAA members and community proud."
Total giving to athletics was $11.1 million and includes gifts to capital projects, sport enhancement funds, Stueckle Sky Center premium seating and Coaches Clubs. This support came from more than 6,000 donors.
The BAA is the fundraising arm of Boise State athletics and was founded in 1968. BAA officers for the 2016-17 year were Rod Meyer, President; Brian Yeargain, Vice President, Diane Compton, Treasurer; Barbara Kennedy, Secretary and Jay Larsen, Past President.
