Lalovic Leads Broncos at Gonzaga Fall Invitational

Stefan Lalovic will play for the red singles flight title on Sunday.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Boise State's Stefan Lalovic has gone 3-0 in singles and has advanced to Sunday's red flight singles title match to lead the Broncos at the Gonzaga Fall Invitational. After a tight opening round of 16 match on Friday, Lalovic swept through his quarterfinal and semifinal matches with relative ease to reach tomorrow's final.

Lalovic opened the tournament Friday afternoon rallying from one set down to defeat Montana's Oisin Shaffrey. After Shaffrey won the opening set 6-4, Lalovic came back to take the second to force a decisive third. He was leading 5-4 in the third when Shaffrey retired because of injury handing the Bronco sophomore a 4-6, 6-4, 5-4 victory.

With one win under his belt, Lalovic rolled into Sunday's final with a pair of straight-set wins. He beat Portland State's Tommy Edwards 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals, then downed Avery West – also from Portland State – 6-2, 6-1 in the semis. Lalovic – who was the only Bronco of four to win in singles – will face Portland's Issa Yoshida in the red singles flight Sunday morning.

In doubles play, Jack Heslin and Ryland McDermott split a pair of matches in the blue flight. They opened with a tough 8-5 loss to Portland's Lefteris Neos and Nick Oberg in the round of 16, then regrouped to defeat Montana's duo of Milo Benn and Max Korkh (score unavailable) in the consolation semifinal. They will face Utah's Mathias Gavelin and R.J. Parker in the consolation title match Sunday morning.

The second doubles team for the Broncos featured Maximilien Blancaneaux and Lalovic. They opened the red draw with an 8-6 victory over Eastern Washington's tandem of Jeremy Field and Manuel Balce in the quarterfinals. The Boise State duo then fell 8-1 at the hands of Ludvig Hallgren and Pontus Hallgren from Montana in the semifinals. Blancaneaux and Lalovic will play for third place Sunday against Utah's Paul McCallie and Chase Stoner.
