Riley Lupfer Named To NCAA.com Starting Five
BOISE, Idaho -
Junior guard Riley Lupfer
was named to NCAA.com's Starting Five for the week of Nov. 19-25 after her MVP performance at the Beach Classic over Thanksgiving Weekend.
It is Lupfer's second time being named to the national starting five. She was previously honored last season, for the week of Jan. 8-14, 2018.
Boise State went 2-1 last week, dropping a 74-55 decision to No. 5/4 Louisville in Boise on Nov. 19 before rebounding to capture the Beach Classic title in Long Beach with wins over Idaho (91-85) and Northern Iowa (61-60). Lupfer averaged 13.3 points over the three contests, hitting eight 3-pointers and going a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Against Louisville, Lupfer scored 11 points and hit three 3-pointers, as the Broncos trailed the fifth-ranked Cardinals by just three at halftime before Louisville pulled away late in the fourth quarter. In Long Beach, the Spokane, Wash., native averaged 14.5 points and hit five triples over the Broncos' two wins, capping the weekend with 16 points and the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:27 to play Saturday against Northern Iowa, a shot which gave Boise State a lead it would never relinquish. The shot also highlighted Boise State's comeback from down six with 5:32 to play in the game.
Lupfer was named the tournament Most Valuable Player following the Bronco win Saturday. This season, the Preseason Mountain West Player of the Year leads a deep Boise State squad with 11.7 points per game and 12 3-pointers, and is a perfect 14-for-14 from the line.
Boise State (5-1) travels to Washington State (2-4) for a 2 p.m. MT tip this Saturday.
