Ostrander Resets School Record in Boston

Moves to seventh on the NCAA record in the indoor 5000m

BOSTON, Mass. -- In her first indoor 5000m in nearly three years, Allie Ostrander reset her previous school record in the event, while also besting the previous Mountain West record in the process. Ostrander, along with redshirt freshman Emily Venters, competed in the 5000m at the Sharon Colyear-Danville BU Season Opener, Saturday.
Ostrander finished fourth in a competitive field and ran 15:16.83 -- one of eight women to run under 15:30. New Mexico's Ednah Kurgat won the first heat in 15:14.78 to reset the Mountain West record she set at the event last year.
Her time now ranks her seventh in NCAA history in the event.

"It was a good first effort of the season," Ostrander said. "I'm excited to get in some solid training over break and improve upon that performance."

In the first indoor race of her Bronco career, Emily Venters moved to fourth all-time on the school record list, running 15:53.47. Venters took second in her heat, and ranks just behind Emma Bates (15:50.78) in the school record book.
The remainder of the Broncos will return to action next weekend at the Jackson's Open, Dec. 8.
