TEMPE, Ariz. -
The Boise State softball team again split their two games at the Kajikawa Classic, downing Saint Mary's in five innings, before dropping a game to Northwestern.

Boise State was dominant behind the plate, downing Saint Mary's in five innings, 13-5, behind four home runs.

The Gaels struck first with a solo shot over the center field fence with two outs. Starting pitcher Rainey Dyreson was able to strike the next batter out swinging to end the inning, trailing 1-0.

It was the bottom of the second inning when Boise State would come alive, exploding for seven runs off of seven hits - including two home runs. Isabelle Butler hit the first, sending it over the right field fence with Jessica McKay and Alison Seng on the corners. The home run was the first of Butler's career.

Rebekah Cervantes added a three-run shot of her own to give Boise State a commanding, 7-1 lead.

The Broncos added a solo shot from Seng, and a three-run homer from Kora Wade in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 10-1.

In the top of the fifth inning, Boise State allowed only one runner on base, and entered the bottom of the fifth needing only one run to end the game with an eight-run lead. With Kora Wade on second and no outs, Cervantes again was the answer the Broncos needed at the plate, shooting an RBI double to the right gap, clinching the victory for Boise State.

Dyreson secured the win for the Broncos, striking out three in 3.1 innings of work.

The Wildcats were able to down Boise State in five innings, winning 11-3 in Boise State's second game of the day.

The Broncos entered the bottom of the fifth, down 11-1 and needing to score three runs to extend the game. Ashlyn Adams was able to get to second base off a single and then advancing another base off a wild pitch. Adams scored thanks to a reach on an error from Kora Wade. Wade would reach home on another throwing error, one that let McKay reach first.

With Cervantes on third the run that would negate Northwestern's eight-run lead, Seng lined out to third to end the inning, and the game.

Boise State will close out the Kajikawa Classic, with tomorrow's 2 p.m. (MT) game against Stanford at the Tempe Sports Complex.
