COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - After sweeping Nevada in a three-game series this past weekend, the Boise State softball team has also swept the Mountain West Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday. Sophomore Micaela Leal was named the Pitcher of the Week, while freshman Alison Seng was named Player of the Week.
This is the first time Boise State has taken home both honors in the same week since Aubray Zell and Allie Crump did so for games played the week of March 12-18, 2012.
Leal earned the first weekly honors of her career after going 2-0 on the weekend. The Salinas, Calif. native pitched 12.0 innings of relief, highlighted by 7.2 innings of shutout work as the Broncos came from behind to win a 6-5 game in extra innings.
Leal finished the weekend with a 0.58 ERA, allowing only one earned run on seven hits.
This is the second time Seng was named Player of the Week this season. The freshman batted .727 (8-for-11) scoring three runs while batting in two runs. She also added three doubles and had a slugging percentage of 1.000.
Boise State is at home this week, hosting Idaho State on Wednesday (3 p.m.), and Fresno State, April 27-29. The winner of the series against the Bulldogs will take the lead in the race for the Mountain West Championship.
