BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State softball team took care of business in the final nonconference game of the season, dismantling Idaho State (10-31) in five innings, 15-6. Three Broncos sent the ball over the fence for a home run, Wednesday at Dona Larsen Park.
After giving up a run off of no hits in the top of the first inning, Boise State (31-13) responded in a big way in the bottom half of the inning, scoring 11 runs en route to the run-rule victory. Rebekah Cervantes opened the scoring with an RBI single to right field, while Isabelle Butler would hit a three-run home run in the nine-spot to put the Broncos up 8-1 over the Bengals.
In the bottom of the first inning, Boise State would score 11 runs off of 12 hits, while recording 12 at-bats in the inning. It wasn't until the eighth-spot in the lineup that the Bengals were able to record an out in the bottom of the first.
Makenzie Sullivan and Morgan Lamb added home runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning. Rainey Dyreson earned her second win of the season in the start, while Paige Reimann pitched 2.0 innings of relief. Madison Anthony, Alison Seng and Sullivan all finished the game 2-for-3, as Boise State recorded 13 hits in the game.
Boise State enters a pivotal weekend series at home against Fresno State, April 27-29. The Broncos are currently alone in second-place in the Mountain West, half a game ahead of San Jose State. The Bulldogs are currently first in the conference, but their two-game lead means the winner of this series enters the final two weeks of conference play in the lead.
