2019-20 IN REVIEW: Individual Awards

Boise State Athletics wraps up its annual Year In Review by handing out the department's awards for female and male student-athletes of the year in the categories of: athletics, academics and community service.

Boise State Athletes of the Year

  • Female: Raimee Sherle (soccer)
    Meridian native Raimee Sherle cemented her legacy as the best soccer player in Boise State history in 2019, leading the Broncos to a school-record 18 wins, the Mountain West regular-season and tournament titles, and the team's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 10 years. Sherle, the Boise State and Mountain West all-time leader in goals and points, capped her career as a second-team All-American, after becoming the program's first All-American in 2018 (third team).  
     
  • Male: Curtis Weaver (football)
    Curtis Weaver, the 2019 Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, earned nine All-America honors in 2019 playing edge, including three first-team selections (CBS, The Sporting News, Walter Camp). Weaver ended his career with 34 sacks, a Mountain West record and second all-time at Boise State. His 13.5 sacks and 18.5 tackles-for-loss led the conference in 2019 and were tied for fifth and tied for 12th nationally, respectively. The Los Angeles native was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Boise State Scholar-Athletes of the Year

  • Female: Kendra Noneman (track and field)
    An all-conference thrower and decorated scholar, Kendra Noneman was named the 2019-20 Mountain West Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Noneman graduated in May with a degree in materials science and engineering with a 3.85 grade-point average. After an undergraduate career that included internships and awards from various regional and national engineering organizations, including NASA, Noneman will pursue a doctoral degree at Carnegie Mellon.
     
  • Male: John Molchon (football)
    A team captain who paved the way for Boise State to win two Mountain West championships, John Molchon earned his finance degree in May 2019. Molchon was twice named All-MW First Team and three times landed on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

Individual Award Winners

  • Female: Maya Watkins (beach volleyball)
    For the second year in a row, Maya Watkins recorded the most community service hours of any Boise State student-athlete. Despite a shelter-in-place order that impacted the ability to volunteer in the spring, Watkins recorded a staggering 135 hours of community service. The majority of her time was spent helping at the St. Luke's Children Hospital.
     
  • Male: Cory Meyer (baseball)
    The department's top-serving male student-athlete was Cory Meyer with 35 hours. Meyer volunteered his time to a wide variety of causes throughout the Treasure Valley, and was a key member of Boise State's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, rallying fellow Broncos to make a difference in the community.
